A brief reminder on exam results
A candidate from one of the courses you are teaching is often disruptive and displays a negative attitude all through their training. To you, there is no possible doubt: they’ll make a bad lifeguard and shouldn’t obtain their award.
You might be strongly tempted to make this candidate fail the course. You cannot, however, yield to this temptation. The Program Guide is explicit on this matter: “an instructor or evaluator can only make a candidate fail a Must See that must be evaluated according to the relevant Award Guide”. Remember that you should solely refer to the Lifesaving Society’s literature for any matter regarding course content.
The same goes for an evaluator: a candidate can only fail when unsuccessfully demonstrating their ability to perform a Must See that must be evaluated. Consequently, the justification behind the fail item must directly (and only) refer to a Must See from the Award Guide.
Instructors and evaluators who fail a candidate on other grounds than a failed Must See from the Award Guide will have their decision overridden by the Lifesaving Society.
