BECOME INSTRUCTOR

You would like to become an instructor for water training courses and share your passion for this field?

Here are the prerequisites for each water training course:

 

Boat Rescue Instructor:

  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Have an up-to-date boat rescue course or equivalent;
  • Hold a valid general first aid course;
  • Hold a pleasure craft operator card.

Water Rescue Instructor for First Responders:

  • Be at least 21 years old;
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in the field of boating;
  • Hold a valid first aid certificate;
  • Hold a restricted maritime radio telephony certificate (VHF maritime);
  • Have a basic navigation course or equivalent, as well as a pleasure craft operator card;
  • Hold a Water Rescue for First Responders certificate or equivalent.

If you hold a certificate from another organization, prior learning recognition will be required.

River Rescue Safety Technician Instructor:

  • Be 25 years old or older;
  • Have teaching experience in the aquatic or nautical field (e.g., Rescue Instructor, Canoe or Kayak Instructor, Swimming Instructor, etc.);
  • Hold a valid General First Aid certificate or equivalent;
  • Have 5 or more years of experience in whitewater, such as: certification from a federation working in the whitewater field, experience and involvement in a related area, involvement in the whitewater field;
  • Hold a valid River Rescue Safety Technician certificate or Level II Whitewater Rescue certification from the Lifesaving Society or the Canoe and Kayak Federation.
If you have a certificate from another organization, prior learning recognition will be required.

SWIFTWATER SAFETY & RESCUE INSTRUCTOR – PROFESSIONAL LEVEL

  • Be 25 years old or older;
  • Have teaching experience in the aquatic or nautical field (e.g., Rescue Instructor, Canoe or Kayak Instructor, Swimming Instructor, etc.);
  • Hold a valid General First Aid certificate or equivalent;
  • Have 5 or more years of experience in swiftwater, such as: certification from a federation working in the swiftwater field, experience and involvement in a related area, involvement in the swiftwater field;
  • Hold a PROFESSIONAL LEVEL SWIFTWATER SAFETY & RESCUE certification.

PROFESSIONAL ICE & COLD WATER SAFETY & RESCUE INSTRUCTOR

  • Have teaching experience in the aquatic or nautical field (e.g., Rescue Instructor, Canoe or Kayak Instructor, Swimming Instructor, etc.);
  • Hold a valid General First Aid certificate or equivalent;
  • Have 5 or more years of experience in swiftwater, such as: certification from a federation working in the swiftwater field, experience and involvement in a related area, involvement in the swiftwater field;
  • Hold a PROFESSIONAL LEVEL ICE & COLD WATER SAFETY & RESCUE certification.

Instructor Trainer:

  • Be a member of the Lifesaving Society;
  • Hold your instructor certification (nautical, SEV, or ice);
  • Submit a letter of intent.
